May 27, 2025 — The Systems Thinking Standards Institute (STSI) proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Laura Cabrera to its esteemed Science Board. Dr. Cabrera, an acclaimed social scientist, educator, and leader in systems thinking, brings deep expertise in advancing structural thinking across education, public policy, and social innovation.


Dr. Cabrera serves as faculty at Cornell University, where she is the Director of the graduate program in Systems Thinking, Modeling, and Leadership (STML). She is Director of the national ThinkWater initiative. She is also the Co-founder and Executive Director of the Cabrera Research Lab, where her work focuses on scaling access to systems thinking through research, curriculum design, and practitioner-oriented tools and is co-host of the Cabrera Lab podcast-the only systems thinking podcast and ranking top 2% of all podcasts worldwide.


A co-author of Systems Thinking Made Simple and a pioneer in the application of metacognitive frameworks, Dr. Cabrera has led efforts to embed systems thinking into K–12 education, higher education, and nonprofit leadership training. Her initiatives have transformed how diverse populations understand and apply structural thinking to real-world challenges.


The STSI Science Board is an interdisciplinary committee responsible for reviewing and approving models, protocols, and practices for inclusion in the Global Systems Thinking Standard (STS®). Dr. Cabrera’s leadership in education and social systems directly supports STSI’s mission to develop scientifically rigorous, globally relevant systems thinking standards.


Her appointment strengthens STSI’s commitment to equity, accessibility, and practical innovation in the global movement toward universal systems literacy.
