May 27, 2025 — The Systems Thinking Standards Institute (STSI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Scott A. Campbell, Vice President for Higher Education Partnerships at the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), to its Science Board. Dr. Campbell brings over two decades of leadership in higher education, specializing in adult learning, workforce development, and the integration of systems thinking into educational practices.

At CAEL, Dr. Campbell collaborates with postsecondary institutions to enhance their responsiveness to adult learners' evolving needs. His expertise encompasses prior learning assessment (PLA), credit for prior learning (CPL), and the development of stackable credentials and career pathways. His work emphasizes the importance of aligning educational offerings with workforce demands, ensuring that adult learners can effectively translate their experiences into academic and career advancement.

Dr. Campbell's career includes serving as Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin, where he significantly increased graduate and accelerated undergraduate enrollments. He also initiated the "Heroes’ Welcome Initiative," which tripled the veteran student population and garnered recognition from the State of Wisconsin. Earlier roles include Executive Director for Partnership Development at Regis University and Director of Student Activities at the same institution.

“Scott has spent decades championing adult learners, not just in word but through tangible systems that change lives," says Dr. Derek Cabrera. "His deep understanding of how people learn, re-skill, and grow throughout their careers brings a critical dimension to the Professional Systems Thinking (PST) Credential and to organizational accreditation. He bridges institutional strategy with human potential—and that’s exactly the kind of grounded, transformative insight we need on the Science Board.”— Dr. Derek Cabrera,

Beyond his administrative roles, Dr. Campbell has contributed to national dialogues on adult education through publications and presentations. His insights have been featured in collaborations with organizations such as the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), focusing on strategies to support adult learners and integrate systems thinking into institutional practices.

Dr. Campbell holds a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma, an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado.

In his role on the STSI Science Board, Dr. Campbell will contribute his extensive experience to the development and refinement of the Global Systems Thinking Standard (STS®), ensuring its applicability across educational and workforce development contexts.
